What Is
WHAT IS….
Are you fighting what is? Are you fighting with reality? I found myself in exactly this position a few days ago. I woke up not feeling well at all, knowing my symptoms and knowing I would need to go to hospital. For a long moment I just sat in bed fighting it, why do I feel sick again, I don’t want to feel like this, I have things planned, I have work to do, I can’t be sick…. Fighting and resisting making the phone calls I needed to arrange everything.
Did this serve me in any way? Absolutely not. Where these the right questions to ask? Absolutely not. It was not miraculously going to make me better, it wasn’t going to go away. Burying my head in the sand was not going to help. So I made the phone calls, arranged what I needed to arrange and got myself to hospital.
Is it not interesting how a person’s brain does that? But as humans, we can also take a step back and see what is going on, instead of being in the middle of it, and make different choices, ones that serve us. Sometimes you just have to look at them as facts and strip the emotions out and then decide how you are going to handle things. It is what we make things mean that cloud our judgement and make things difficult for ourselves, slowing us down.
What are you fighting in your life? I am not talking about the little things that you have the power to change, I am talking about things that are, that you have to deal with. Things like this, getting sick, losing your job, having a flat tyre are going to come up all the time and what happens next depends on how you handle them.
This is life, it’s not all butterflies and daisies, tough things happen even if you want them to or not. If you fight it, you are going to lose 100% of the time, it’s not going to stop the challenges from coming. Life throws curve balls all the time and some knock you off your axis. You get up, dust yourself off and start all over again, as the Diana Krall song goes. This is when you step into who you are, you dig deep for your strength, you have the grit and you can do this.
Now accept your “what is”. Is there something there you need to take cognizance of? Is there a lesson to be learnt? Is there something you can change? In my case, I decided to think that my body desperately needs a rest and it is showing me how I need to do this. Going to hospital is not the worst thing in the world, the staff are very good at what they do and very helpful, you lounge around in bed and look “awful” and that is ok, your meals get cooked and brought to you and you get looked after. And your only job is to get better. Sounds simple right? No, we want to fight it and when this happens you only delay getting better, you just make it worse for yourself.
If you keep resisting it, it is going to cause your suffering and you will keep focusing on the negative and miss out on all the positive things. Instead say, bring it, I was made for this, how am I going to use this, what am I going to do with this. Feel the power in these words, feel it in your body. This is what builds courage and confidence.
Often you don’t even realise how strong you are, you get given something you have no choice but to deal with and you step up and you find out how strong you really are. Take it, use it and grow from it, this is where your confidence comes from.
When you give yourself the gift of accepting what is, you are also giving yourself the gift of the good stuff, because when you experience the hard times and come through the other side stronger and more confident, you get to experience more of the good times too.
Also you won’t be afraid of your next challenge, you will stop resisting sooner and accept and open yourself, because you know, from experience, that you can do hard things, you can do this, you can grow.
What are you resisting ladies? Do you need help with thinking about something in a different way? Let me know….
Thanks for reading
PS I am doing much better already.
