What is your word of the year?

What is your word of the year?

Happy New Year!

I am currently doing a course on how to establish your word of the year and thought it would be a good way to start of the new year.  I have halfheartedly done this in the past, but realise that it is so useful and beneficial to concentrate on your word of the year.  Keeping it in the forefront of your mind and deciding on how you are going to be thinking and what you are going to be doing when you have decided on your word.

So how are you going to choose your word?

I am going to help you with that.  Think of who you want to be this year, I am not talking about being a good mom, or a productive employee or an excellent cook.  These are things you do.  Who do you want to embody this year?  Do you want to be loving, bold, elegant, worldly, abundant, confident, adventurous…and the list is endless.  In order to help you decide, think of the end of the year, who did she become, what did she do, what goal did she achieve?  Play around with different options and see which one lights you up.  This is fun ladies, you cannot do this wrong!

Narrow you list down to about 5 words that inspire you.  So when you think about this amazing person you want to practice being this year, which word works with her?  Perhaps you have or know someone in your life that you admire and want to aspire to being.  What do you like about her, which words would describe her, how could you emulate her?  At the end of this year, how would you like people to describe you?

Now what is your word?

Write it down everywhere.  And I mean everywhere!  Put it on your bathroom mirror where you can see it every morning and every evening when you brush your teeth.  Put it on your screensaver, in your office, in your daily diary, meditate and think about it every morning.  This is so that you have a reminder of your word as you go through your day.

A reminder of who you want to be every single day and the more you think about it, the more your brain will come up with ways on how you can embody your word.

A couple of years ago, my word was elegant.  Everytime I saw my word, I would sit up straighter, be more mindful of how I walked, talked and ate.  I also dressed with care in the morning and made sure I was well put together.  By the end of the year, I had acquired so many beautiful habits in creating elegance.

What does she believe?

Now get to visualizing the version of you who has embodied your word for the year.  What does she believe?  What does she do?  How does she show up differently?  How does she communicate?  What does her style look like?  Where does she live?  What kind of places does she go to?  What habits does she practice?  What does a typical day look like for her?

A few things to keep in mind when you are doing this work.  You may want to pick more than one word…don’t, you may want to veer away from your word towards something that is seemingly more important…don’t.  The whole idea is to constrain and focus on just one thing.  If you focus on too many things, you will not give the necessary attention to embodying your word.

Don’t spin in confusion.  And actually picking your word of the year clarifies things for you.  Once you pick your word, it is so much easier to make decisions and move in the direction you need to.  If you have a choice to make and you are unsure as to which way to go, just ask yourself which choice would the version of you made who is….?  The answer will be super clear.

Look to your future, when you are thinking about your word, not to your past.  You are creating a whole new version of yourself and that version is not in your past.  She has to be thinking new thoughts and believe new things.

How?

None of your business!  If you knew the “how” you would already be that person.  Ask yourself everyday what you can do to become your word, show up for yourself, take action, take advantage of opportunities, open yourself to possibilities and each day will show you how.

This is so much fun to do and I am doing this alongside you.  I would love to hear and discuss your word of the year, contact me on hello@lliautism.net
