Thinking New Thoughts ~ Blog

Think new thoughts - Blog Live Life Inspired

Most of us are not even aware of what we are thinking.  Mostly we get a feeling which makes us pay attention and then perhaps we may explore what we are thinking.  This will only assist you if you believe that your thoughts create your feelings.

30 day practice

After 30 days you will have a good idea on what is going on and what your thoughts are all about.  You will probably find a lot of repetitive thoughts over the 30 days and it’s these you can concentrate on.  Now ask yourself if these thoughts are predominantly negative or positive.  Please don’t get alarmed if they are predominantly negative.  Average is 50/50 positive and negative.  You are just creating awareness for yourself at this point.

The next step is to pick out the thoughts that do not serve you.  The thoughts that have you staying stuck, the thoughts that give you a bad feeling, the thoughts that you know you want to get rid of because you just don’t want them around. Make a list of those and then pick the ones you want to change.  Then you write down what thought you would rather be thinking.  For example, if you are currently thinking “I am fat” and you want to be thinking “I am naturally slender”.  Pick a good thought that you really would be excited to think.

Affirmations – Think new thoughts

Now you have all heard about affirmations and sometimes they work and other times not.  Why?  Because sometimes the good thought is so far away from your reality that your brain goes no way, not true.  This is what is called cognitive dissonance.  The only way you are going to get to “I am naturally slender” is to use the thought ladder.

The thought ladder

The thought ladder helps you get to your best thought one step at a time.  If you are thinking I am fat and this thought makes you feel terrible, a better thought could be “I keep thinking I am fat”.  Your brain will accept that thought because it is true, right?  And this thought feels marginally better.  The you could go to “I am looking forward to losing weight”, now this thought should feel much better.  Each time you take one more step up the ladder to your best thought.  Spend some time one each thought until you are comfortable with it before moving to the next one.

This is the process you follow with all the thoughts you would like to change and before you know it, you are thinking better thoughts and taking better actions towards the things that you really want.  If you have problems with how you could be thinking new thoughts, there are a host of inspirational books out there, even Instagram posts you could follow.  Pick the ones that resonate with you.

Why not finish the year strong and create new thoughts that you would like to have implemented in the new year.  Don’t wait for the new year, start now.

Till next week.
