Life Coaching for Women ~ By Antoinette Porter

Stop saying ” I Don’t Know”

As women we do this a lot.  We say we don’t know, we ask someone else’s opinion and we think we don’t have the answers.  Have you noticed that other people have a lot of opinions about what you should do, what you should buy, as if they know you better than you do?

Saying “I don’t know” is a form of procrastination.  It keeps you in a state of confusion.  If you keep saying you don’t know, you don’t need to make a decision.  However, this is making a decision in itself.  You are making the decision to not move forward and this has huge implications for your life.  We don’t think a lot about the fact that when we put things off, it already starts impacting our lives, and mostly not in a good way.

Now I am all for doing your due diligence

If you are going to be spending a lot of money on something, for example.  You want to do the research and ask the questions and perhaps get an opinion or two from your loved ones (although the latter should not be your deciding factor).  The trick is to give yourself a time limit on doing the research and then you need to make the decision.

Also when you are indecision, check in with your body.  If you decide to go for it, how does that feel in your body.  You should feel excitement, maybe a little fear.  It should feel like your are enhancing your life.  On the flip side, feel what it feels like if you decide against doing the thing. Does it feel low vibe, back in your comfort zone, or a relief?  Remember if you are deciding on doing something outside your comfort zone, it is going to feel uncomfortable and scary and should not be the reasons to not do something.

Stop saying ” I Don’t Know”

Oscillating being doing something and not, takes up a lot of valuable energy and the longer it takes to decide, the less likely you are too take a decision from high value thoughts.  Sometimes you have been in indecision for such a long time and when it comes time to make the decision, you just choose anyone.

What if you could never make the “wrong” decision?  What if no matter what decision you took, it would be the right one either way?  This takes a lot of the “I don’t know” out of it.  We may feel like we made the wrong decision down the line, if the thing you choose didn’t work out, but think of the valuable lessons you have learnt along the way.

Making Decisions

I think I have mentioned this before, I studied law and it took me 7 long years as I did most of it part time.  It was hard and interesting at the same time and I enjoyed learning about all the things.  However, 3 weeks into my first job as a candidate attorney, I knew this was not for me.  I really did not enjoy it at all and I made the decision to quit.  In my body, it felt like the best decision I have ever made and perhaps if I did body checks earlier, I may have picked up on the fact that it was probably not the right path for me.

Now I could have chosen to believe that I wasted 7 years of my life, but I didn’t.  I chose to believe that it was something I wanted to do and I completed it successfully.  I chose to believe that I got really good at disciplining myself (there is a lot of reading to be done).

I made the decision and I got on with my life.  Not that I was sure what I wanted to do, but I found something I liked and worked at the same company for almost 20 years.

Stop saying ” I Don’t Know”  ~ Think “I Do Know”

Instead of saying “I don’t know” think that “I do know” and wait for your brain to come up with some answers.  Your brain will always prove true what you are thinking.  So why not chose a positive thought, one that will get you to a decision.  Remember to make decisions for the future you.  Don’t look to your past for the answer, there is nothing there.

If you could not make a wrong decision, what would you choose right now?

Till next week.
