SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE
We are all so busy doing, being, moving, planning. Our lives are jampacked with all sorts of things and some of our processes could be simpler in order to enhance the quality of our lives. So how can you make your life simpler? By working on your mind and planning. Sometimes planning and thought work is a bit of a pain but so worth the time and effort.
A few blogs back I wrote about creating from your future self and also on creating good habits, which ties in with what I am going to talk to you today.
Go back and refresh your memory a bit.Â
Whatever we plan on doing, do so keeping your future self in mind. I asked you to figure out who your future self is, what is she doing, where is she going, what kind of habits does she have. Once you have some clarity on that we can create a plan to support that future vision of yourself.
Insignificant steps
These are the really small, insignificant steps you need to take in order to be a success. Don’t discount them! For example, say you are a habitual late comer to meetings, for appointments and your future self arrives on time or earlier. Start with small steps towards achieving that. Look at your calendar, your meeting is at 10am.
Figure out how long it’s going to take to get to your meeting, add 10-15 minutes grace. Now you know you have to leave at 9:15, or whatever, so it is easy to plan your morning. Barring a disaster, you are almost guaranteed to arrive a little early or on time.
Doing this saves you so much mind drama and stress. It leaves your mind free to focus on the important things like internally prepping for your meeting or visualizing a great outcome. You cannot do this if you are worried you are going to be late, you don’t know exactly where the meeting is, or looking for a phone number so that you can call and tell them you are running late. Phew! I am just stressed thinking about it.

This may seem short, but you will be surprised at how much can be accomplished.
Simplify your life
Mentally go through your day and think of ways to simplify things for yourself. Typically I do this the night before. I need to wake up at 5:45 so I make sure to set my alarm. I need to take my son to school, so I have his bag ready and his lunch ready to grab out of the fridge. After dropping my son off at school, I do my exercise routine, have breakfast, shower and get ready for work and so on. All my clothes are set out or at least I know exactly what I am going to where the next day. My everyday routine is pretty much fixed and easy.
In each of these little steps find ways to make it easier for yourself. Put out your workout clothes, prep your lunch the day before especially if your future self is looking after her health.
Another huge way to simplify your life, is to make decisions and when you have made that decision have your back on it. Don’t hum and haw. This takes time and has you spinning in confusion. Don’t do that to yourself. Learn to make quick decisions, after a while you will get to trust yourself.
 “It’s complicated”
I am sure you have heard people say “It’s complicated” or perhaps you have said so yourself. It is not really, all you have to do is decide that it’s not. Most people complicate their lives beyond what is necessary and often it’s complicated because they are not in integrity with themselves. Think about where you think things are complicated in your life and figure out why that is. Can you make a different decision? One that is in line with your future self?
What takes up a lot of your time? How can you organize it that it takes up less time, freeing up time you could devote to things you really want to do or that takes you in the direction of your future self. For example, I found that going to gym took up a lot of my time and even though this is part of working towards a healthier future self, I valued time with my son as well. Now we go for walks together, I get to exercise and spend quality time with my son.
I would love to hear what you are doing to simplify your life.
Till next week.
