On quite a few occasions I have spoken about your future self.  Your future self is the person you want to become, the one who makes all the money, the one who has lost all the weight, the one who has achieved that goal.

Come up against fear or anxiety

Now listen, it does not mean that you won’t come up against fear or anxiety, you will.  Don’t let that stop you from going for your dreams.  Ok so back up a bit, what is your fear all about?  If you pay attention to what your brain is saying, it’s probably stuff like, I’m going to die, I’ll go hungry, I’ll lose my home or whatever disastrous thought your brain will come up with.  Really?  Will those things happen?  Our brains like to be so dramatic, all to protect us.  We have to remind our brains that we don’t need to be protected like that.  The worst that can happen is a feeling.

You will also face a huge amount of discomfort.

This is normal, nothing has gone wrong, you are not on the wrong track.  Working towards your dreams means that you are going to have to do things you have never done before.  You are going to have to learn new things and grow and it’s all uncomfortable.  I don’t know about you, but I would rather feel the pain of growing than the pain of lying on the couch watching Netflix not fulfilling my dreams and being unhappy.

What habits would you have as your future self?  For example, if you want to lose weight, what kind of habits do you think your future self would have?  She would not be stuffing her face every chance she gets, that is for sure.  She may have created a habit of drinking lots of water.  She may have created the habit of eating slowly and savouring her food, she may have started exercising.  She may be a person who doesn’t think about food all the time.

Make a list of those habits you think you would need to incorporate in your life and then start doing them.  You don’t have to wait till you reach your goal, you can start right now.

You won’t be perfect at it for a while and that’s OK.

You are learning and practicing, but I promise you that if you start creating these habits now, in a couple of months’ time you won’t even be thinking about it and you will realise that you have already become a woman who has achieved her goal or you are so far along.

Make your life amazing, you don’t get a do over, make your life count for you.
