Don’t like it….change it. Blog by Antoinette
Life is a combination of experiences, challenges and choices. Sometimes, we find ourselves in situations that don’t resonate with our true desires, dreams or values. In those moments, a simple yet powerful mantra emerges: “Don’t like it….change it.” This elegantly simple phrase carries within it the potential for transformative action and personal growth.
We often get stuck on a path that is not right for us, yet we refrain from going back or changing it because we have invested so much in it. Be it time, money, love, effort. There is no shame in changing it. I found myself in such a situation, a relationship which was definitely not what I wanted, yet I was reluctant to let it go. I felt like I would be a failure once again, yet the alternative, staying, was not an option. The longer I went down this wrong path, the more difficult it became.
But you possess the power to shape your reality. The mantra “Don’t like it, change it” is an affirmation of your personal agency, a reminder that you are not a passive observer of your life but an active creator of your destiny. Remember every day offers opportunities for change and transformation.
Don’t like it….change it
Embracing a change begins with the courage to questions your current circumstances. Are you happy with your career, relationship or lifestyle? Do these align with your core values and aspirations? If not, it’s a signal that change is calling.
Change requires clarity. Take the time to really figure out what you truly want. Is it a more fulfilling career, healthier relationship, a sense of purpose, more money, health? Getting clear on your desires is the compass that points you in the right direction.
Once you have figured out what you want, set clear intentions. Intentions are like a roadmap to your desires. They provide directions and purpose. By setting these intentions, you also declare to yourself and the universe what you are committing to. For me this looked like, firstly spending some time with myself to figure out who I am and what I really wanted in a relationship. I also started being grateful for where I was.
Now change does require some practical steps. Develop an action plan that outlines how you will move from your current situation to the desired one. Make it as simple and manageable as you can. Practically I had to find a place to live, which is what I did.
Change can be very challenging
You have to step outside your comfort zone and face uncertainty. Knowing this and embracing this will make things easier mentally. Be open to what you need to do, see it as an opportunity.

Hi, I’m Antoinette Porter, your hostess at Live Life Inspired where we will explore what is possible in your life. A life you can look back on and say, “Wow!! I did that!”
Remember setbacks are part of the change process. Instead of seeing your situation as a failure, as I did, see them as valuable lessons. What can I learn from this? What are my next steps? This allows your failures to turn into stepping stones to your exciting new future.
Be resilient. It means you will be able to bounce back from your setback and stay committed to what you really want and to maintain a positive outlook even when you are dealing with your challenges. Nurture your resilience.
Don’t like it….change it
There are also going to be people on your side to help you with anything that you need. I really battled to ask for help because I was so ashamed, but having that support network provided encouragement, guidance and love. It was so helpful in my journey forward.
Sometimes you can make the change quickly or it may take some time. Acknowledge the courage it is taking for you to make the change, acknowledge your resilience and keep going. Use this as motivation to keep moving to what you really want.
You are the author of your story, no one else. You get to decide, no one else. Change is not just possible, it’s an essential part of the human experience. Mahatma Gandhi said, ”You must be the change you want to see in the world.” By embodying the change you desire, you not only transform your life but also inspire those around you.
