Become a risk taker
What are you waiting for? Most of us live very sheltered and small lives. And that is fairly normal as people don’t want to take risks and lose what they have. Inherently we will work and store and build up to the ceiling we think is enough. Till we are comfortable and then do what we can to stay in that comfort zone.
My coach always ask how great is your life on a scale of 1 – 10. Some people tell her about an 8 or 9 and she says, but what if it’s a 2? She is obviously implying that your life could be so much better. And it’s not meant to be that you should be unsatisfied with your life. You can want more from a place of abundance. Rather than seeing it as not being grateful rather view it from a place of how can I live my life in a more awesome way.
Younger people tend to take more risks
Younger people tend to take more risks and not because they have a little to lose, but rather they have not taken on the attitude of fear and small mindedness. They are more likely to be open to ideas and trying out things. What happens with the older generations is that we used to be there, we used to take risks and we failed so we decide to not take anymore risks in case we fail again. This is kind of the point of life though. To take risks and fail and take more risks and fail again until you get what you want.
Most of the risks that are presented to us actually don’t require you losing that much. Oftentimes the only risk is a feeling, like embarrassment, shame, humiliation and awkwardness. But our brains tend to go into overdrive…we are going to die…we are going to be out on the street. Very seldom does this kind of thing happen, but it’s your brains way of preventing you from taking the risk. If you knew that the only thing you are risking is a feeling, would you take the risk?

Hi, I’m Antoinette Porter, your hostess at Live Life Inspired where we will explore what is possible in your life. A life you can look back on and say, “Wow!! I did that!”
I don’t think we are on this earth to play small and safe
There is so much to experience and do and be, yet we are afraid to venture out. I know of some people who have never even travelled out of their hometown. And yes it can be scary, but do it anyway. I love to travel, yet each time I have to catch a plane, I get a lot of anxiety, not because I think something is going to happen with the plane, it’s mostly thoughts of….am I going to be on time, will my luggage be there at the other end, etc. Really not massive fear inducing stuff, just normal anxiousness.
When we look at famous people, people who are rich and do fancy things, like have yachts or rent planes or become presidents and perhaps we wish we could have some of that. Be it the money, prestige, confidence or lifestyle. Do you think they let fear stop them? These people are no different from you and me. They still felt the fear, but went ahead and did those things anyway. They took the risks, the felt all the feelings and failed a lot along the way, but they wanted more. They had bigger dreams and wanted to achieve them and their rewards are so much greater because of it.
Big dreams
So what big dreams are you dreaming of that you think are impossible? Why do you think that they are out of your reach? Have you tried working towards them? And if so, have you failed and why have you not gotten back up and kept going forward? Answer these questions with curiosity, you may be surprised.
I have many dreams and have started working towards them, some I have already achieved and some I am failing at spectacularly. But I am going to carry on and do my best, because I only have this one life and I want to make it the best I can.
Start taking small risks towards your goals. Start failing because the more you fail the closer you will get to your goals. It is perfectly OK to fail, it means you are doing something as opposed to nothing and staying where you are.
I would love to hear about which risks you are taking.
Till next week.
