My Journal
Every day has a “Mmmoment…” to write down your thoughts of gratitude, your belly-tingling thought of the day or just something that makes you smile.
APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE
The dictionary defines gratitude as ”the quality of being thankful, the readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.”
It defines appreciation as “recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.”
A little while ago, I did a post on gratitude and it is so similar to appreciation, but often we just forget to recognise and enjoy things and people in our lives.
I am sure you have all read about appreciating the mundane in your life. Paying your bond means you own a house, paying your electricity means you have heat and lights, doing your laundry means you have clothes, sitting in traffic means you own a car to drive around in, cooking for your family means you have food and loved ones. Sometimes we forget that the things we dislike doing are really such a blessing. No matter what your problems are, there is much to be appreciated in your life.
Ups and downs in life
We all go through ups and downs in life, but things are just so much better and often easier when we appreciate what we have. Just take a day, one day in your life and really think about all the things and people you can appreciate in your life. Yes even the people that irritate you…they are teaching you peace and compassion.
So instead of just enjoying the good qualities of someone or something, think about their presence in your life, why are they there, what are they teaching you. Appreciate all the qualities, not always the easiest thing to do, but so rewarding. And if you need to let go of people or things, do that. It does not mean you do not appreciate them.
Think about your significant other, what do you appreciate about them. Perhaps they are a good provider, perhaps they are handsome, perhaps they are really kind. Look around your home, it may not be the tidiest, but it contains all your most treasured possessions, it has memories of birthday parties and social gatherings and laughter.
Make your life better
A lot of people think that they have to be unhappy and dissatisfied in order to make their life better or to get the things they really want in life. And to a degree this works for some people – staying in the same place is too painful and it motivates them to work harder to get what they want. This is not sustainable though because the energy they put out is one of lack and it is hard going.
Follow the path of ease, really appreciate all you have and then work towards the things and people you want in your life. Now you have changed your energy to positive and you will attract positive things and people into your life. There is no strive or major hard work that goes into this. Sometimes you will be surprised at how easy things come your way. And when there is something/someone you want in your life, but it seems as though they just sail right on by, then that was just not for you. Later you may realise that there was actually something better waiting down the line for you. This also requires you to slow down and smell the roses, so to speak. You cannot appreciate or even recognize when good things come your way.

In the Country
This weekend I went away to the country with my son, and true to form he was a little ball of energy whizzing about enjoying the freedom of running around.
I did my best to catch up and often missed appreciating the beauty surrounding me. At one point, however, my son wanted us to go into this field because he had spotted some horses. He had never been around horses before, but showing no fear he just walked right up to them and started stroking them.
I just stood watching in amazement as they in turn nudged him and carried on eating. After a while one of the horses came over to me for a neck scratch. Now that was pretty amazing, a magical moment!
What are your smallest moments of appreciation?
Have a wonderful week, ladies.
