3 ways to stop overeating
~ Blog
What with the holidays coming up, even the most healthy and disciplined of us tend to overeat. There are so many delicious goodies on display that we can’t help ourselves. I love a bit of Xmas cake with lots of cherries. For some, it’s the Xmas meal with gammon or a braai. Yummy.
3 Ways to stop overeating
Even with all the treats that come out at this time of the year, I will give you some tips to keep in mind to avoid overindulging. And I don’t mean denying yourself either. I want you to have whatever you like, but putting the following tips into practice.
Tip no 1 for overeating
Pay attention when you are eating. Sometimes we just grab things from the fridge or peck at food while we are preparing or just eat for the sake of eating because the plates of goodies are being passed around. If you don’t like mince pies, don’t eat them or if you don’t usually like the potato salad, don’t eat it.
If you really want something, sit down, pay attention and savour every bite you are eating. I mean this is what eating is all about, actually enjoying the food you are eating. If you really pay attention, you will also notice when you have had enough. Far too many of us, just keep eating because we are not paying attention to our bodies and it’s full signals.
Tip no 2 for overeating
When you know you have a bit of a weakness, as I do with Xmas cake, just take a couple of bites and really savour the taste. You will find that a couple of bites is plenty to really enjoy your treat. Now you may be one of those people who says once you start you cannot stop. With much love, I am telling you, you can. You are not depriving yourself, you are looking after yourself and treating yourself with love, by not overeating.
You do not have to eat the entire cake or pie or whatever it is that tempts you. If you feel the need to do that, you need to pay attention to your mind. What thoughts are going on in there? And usually it is not because you are hungry….perhaps you are having feelings of loneliness or disgust or sadness. You cannot eat these feelings away, it may feel better temporarily, but it often comes back with worse feelings.
Tip no 3 for overeating
Move your body. We are so lucky in the Southern Hemisphere, we have Xmas during the summer months. This makes it easier to move around, swimming in the sea, going for walks, playing with the kids. It does not have to be a focused exercise program, but as long as you move every day. We are also less likely to eat stodgy, warming foods. Due to the warm weather, we also tend to not get so hungry.
Tips
Having given you some tips, I want to encourage you to focus on far more elevating thoughts. Instead of focusing on the things we have to take into account to not overeat, why not become a woman who is committed to her health this December?

Perhaps you are actually not well and following the tips may assist you in not worsening your health.
Why not sell yourself on focusing on your health this month
For me it is, I will have more energy to play with my son, I will feel more vibrant. This can also include giving yourself plenty of rest, staying out of stressful situations. This can be quite an issue especially when the whole family is together, there is bound to be some scuffles with the variety of personalities. You do not have to get involved and it may be a good idea to have your healthy boundaries in place.
Don’t be the woman who leaves your health commitments to January. Start now and you will miss that dreaded January 1st resolution.
Have a wonderful, healthy festive season.
